NOC Portugal at the GRASS Project Meeting in Spain
July 16, 2024GRASS kick-off meeting took place in February 2024, marking the official launch of the project “Safer GRASSroots Sport: Building Capacity for Grassroots Sport Organisations”. The project is supported by Erasmus+ Sport programme and coordinated by the National Olympic Committee of Portugal (NOC POR). The kick-off meeting was held in the NOC POR headquarters and welcomed partner organisations from various institutions, notably the National Olympic Committees of Albania and Slovenia, the Ministry of Youth and Sport of Bulgaria, and three organisations specialising in safeguarding in sport: Sportieq (Belgium), Universitat de Vic (Spain), and Qantara Sports (Portugal).
The aim of this project is to support grassroots sports clubs in defining and implementing safeguarding policies and measures to protect athletes. Two practical tools will be developed throughtout the project lifetime: an “Online Self-Assessment”, regarding the existing framework and level of athlete protection in these organisations, and a “Digital Toolkit” that will offer practical and user-friendly materials for implementation of procedures and measures identified as lacking in the self-assessment results.
The project has secured funding of €250,000 for 24 months and was selected from a total of 113 projects submitted for funding under the Erasmus+ Sport 2023 programme by the European Union.
