GRASS Project reaches Albania for second workshop
May 8, 2025The European project Safer Grassroots Sport, coordinated by the National Olympic Committee of Portugal (COP) and co-funded by the European Commission, officially took to the field yesterday with the launch of its first workshop, hosted by the National Olympic Committee of Slovenia (NOC Slovenia).
During the 3-hour session, representatives from participating grassroots sport clubs had the opportunity to explore and test the two core tools developed under this project: the Safe Sport Self-Assessment Tool and the Safe Sport Digital Toolkit. These resources are designed to help grassroots sport organisations assess their current practices, guide strategic improvements, and support the implementation of effective safeguarding measures to protect their participants from violence and abuse in sport.
Held at the Ljubljana Educational Centre, the event welcomed club representatives from Plavalni klub Ljubljana, Nogometni klub Brinje – Grosuplje, Smučarski klub Ihan, and Športno društvo Riba. Participants shared their initial feedback as first-time users of the tools, offering suggestions for refinement based on their practical, day-to-day realities within the sport sector. Each club also completed an individual evaluation of both tools.
The workshop included a lively discussion focused on the main challenges expected during the tools’ implementation, particularly as clubs begin to activate the first safeguarding procedures they plan to adopt in the coming months. The outcomes of these pilot testing initiatives will be presented in October at a national event organised by the NOC Slovenia for its members, partners, and stakeholders with a key role in safeguarding in sport.
The workshop was co-led by Evy Van Coppenolle (SportiEQ) and Peter Dokl (NOC Slovenia), with support from the project coordination team: Cristina Almeida and Joana Gonçalves from COP, while Bruno Bidarra and Montserat Martin represented Qantara Sports and the University of Vic, respectively.
The next workshop will take place on 6 May at the National Olympic Committee of Albania.
